Pedagogical innovation for Educators in Health Professions
Throughout the week, approximately 40 participants from Amref International University, the Christian Health Association of Kenya, Kenya Medical Training Colleges and the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops joined the course.
The course featured five modules, each focusing on a distinct pedagogical theme: reflection, classroom management, gamification, cooperative learning, and evaluation with feedback. The Didactical Relationship Model served as a central framework, supporting a structured and systematic approach to designing learning activities and reflecting on teaching practices. The overall aim was to equip participants with adaptable pedagogical approaches and inspire them to implement motivating learning experiences for students and colleagues.
The course design combined concise feed-up presentations with collaborative online peer learning in breakout rooms. The five-day program was guided by the Health Learning Design Model and the e-tivity template. Course materials were developed and delivered by faculty members from the Danish University Colleges: Absalon, KP, and VIA.
Course Evaluation and Participant Feedback
The course was evaluated using the Delphi method in a Padlet, and participants’ feedback clearly indicates that the program was a success. Here’s what they shared:
“The session has been educational. Slides were well arranged, and the use of videos and images improved my understanding. Presenters were also audible. Kudos!”
“The course was very educational. I learned a lot, and this will improve my teaching.”
“It was very informative. We look forward to more sessions like this in the future.”
“Pedagogical approaches using evidence-based data were very interesting. I enjoyed gamification and the feedback process. The breakout rooms gave us a chance to reflect on these approaches.”
The evaluation also highlighted some challenges, such as internet interruptions and technical connection issues. Participants suggested improvements for future iterations, including extending the course duration, allowing more time for in-depth practice, and providing additional hands-on digital exercises and demonstrations.
Stay tuned for upcoming courses and join us in shaping innovative, engaging, and impactful education for health professionals worldwide!
